Im Burgwald können die verschiedensten Wanderungen unternommen werden. Man hat die Möglichkeit einen der Prämium Wanderwege zu laufen oder sich seine eigene Wandertour zusammen zu stellen. An den Startpunkten kann, bei Anreise mit dem PKW, dort geparkt werden und es stehen in der Regel Informationsflyer zur Verfügung, auf denen, unter anderem, die Wanderroute als Karte abgedruckt ist. Zudem erhält man Angaben zu Entfernung, Höhenmeter und Schwierigkeitsgrad der Strecke. Generell ist der Erwerb einer Wanderkarte oder eines Reiseführer, über den Burgwald, zu empfehlen. Trotz der relativ guten Ausschilderung der einzelnen Touren, kommt es immer wieder vor, dass sich gerade Ortsunkundige, im Burgwald verlaufen.
